Today this waterway links a number of natural areas which combine to create a wonderful area to explore by foot, auto or boat -- especially flatwater canoe. Outdoor enthusiasts can travel along the 23km route which encompasses 19 forest communities. Stands of trees, wetlands and sandy shorelines provide important habitat for a wide variety of natural resources. The waterway also acts as a corridor for southern plant species such as the cardinal flower in the northern portion of its range, and the white oak which never left. It also provides protection for many cultural and natural resouces. Ontario Parks provides four interior campsites throughout Bonnechere River Provincial Park. |
