Traditionally, the majority of FBP Board members have lived within an hour’s drive of Bonnechere Provincial Park. However, Ross Taylor was an exception. For the almost three decades that he was part of our volunteer team, he commuted on a regular basis for meetings and events from his home in Port Perry — sometimes in the dead of winter on snow-covered roads. In that time Ross served several terms as FBP President and was an active Director, always referring to his trusty three-ring binder for archived documents.
Ross also volunteered at various public archaeology events co-hosted by the FBP and OAS Ottawa Chapter. As importantly, Ross was a joy to spend time with around the campfire at our annual Friends Weekends. He regaled us with many hilarious stories (Bob’s your uncle!), supplied lots of yummy desserts and always wrapped up the evening with a puff or two on a Cuban cigar.
