Accessible Navigation

If you are blind or live with low vision, use the BlindSquare Event app to navigate the Nòpiming and Nàdòbìkana FIT trails at Bonnechere Park. BlindSquare is the world’s most widely used accessible GPS-app developed for the blind, deafblind and partially sighted. Paired with third-party navigation apps, BlindSquare’s self-voicing app delivers detailed points of interest and intersections for safe, reliable and independent hiking.

BlindSquare Event provides the same functionality as the paid version of BlindSquare as long as it is used at the time and location of an event that has been registered with the developer of BlindSquare and BlindSquare Event. As of May 20, 2021 (Global Accessibility Awareness Day), BlindSquare provides free and unexpired access to the EVENT app for all Canadians from coast to coast. This means that within Canada, the app is enabled to provide accessible navigation at no cost to the individual.

Since BlindSquare Event does not include offline maps, you need an active internet connection while using it outdoors. However, custom messaging and intersection information can be cached to the device and is available without a WiFi connection.

If you do not have either the free BlindSquare Event app or the paid BlindSquare app on your iPhone or other device, you will need to download at least one version to access BlindSquare services.

You can then download and cache the trail data from home, or once you arrive at Bonnechere Park at either of the two trailheads.
