Basin Depot 1999-2000 - Metal
This eclectic collection includes a nickel-plated piece (likely stove hardware), an iron ring or spacer, a broken axe file, some fence staples, a square nut, some cartridge pieces, bits of lead foil, a piece of sheet tin and wire mesh. Collectively they represent a variety of activity.
Axe File
Collection: Basin Depot 1999
Object: File
Material: Metal
Period: Late 19th Century - Early 20th Century
Files of this design commonly feature a coarse side for removing more stock and a finer side for tune-ups and honing work. Since axes need to be kept sharp, this tool was the woodsman's constant companion. The tang could be rendered a little easier on the hands by slipping a piece of wood over its end as a handle.
