Best of Bonnechere - Pipes
This collection of kaolin pipe bowls and stems gathered along the Bonnechere could have been found on any 19th Century work site. The moulded bowls bear minimal decoration; some have initials like T. D. These stem marks indicate the name and location of various manufacturers including McDougall and Glasgow.
Pipe Bowl
Collection: Best of Bonnechere
Object: Smoking Pipe
Material: Clay
Period: Mid 19th Century - Late 19th Century
This spurred pipe bowl bears the embossed letters TD. While early TD pipes are often attributed to a single manufacturer it is clear that others in England, Scotland, United States and Canada appropriated the brand. Kaolin clay pipes such as these are found on an astonishing number of historic sites. They were produced in the millions and were extremely popular in the late 19th Century.
