Best of Bonnechere - Printed Ceramics
This provides a good overview of what was found at Basin Depot. It features a variety of decorative techniques and colours including blue transferware, a comical black transfer on a child's plate with moulded relief, banded ware, colourful stamped and painted underglaze plates, and a few indications of manufacturer and pattern. All were likely made by Staffordshire potteries.
Child's Plate
Collection: Best of Bonnechere
Object: Plate
Material: Ceramic
Period: Mid 19th Century - Late 19th Century
This diminutive, refined white earthenware plate has been largely reconstructed. The rim bears an embossed floral element and beaded outer ring. The black transfer print depicts the comical image of Billy Button, a 19th Century English clown. Manufactured in Staffordshire, England, tiny plates such as this were often given as gifts to good children.
