McIntyre Farm - Metals
The large embossed cast-iron hinged door is likely from a cookstove firebox. The smaller cast bits next to it are also stove fragments. The well-worn horseshoe should have had its front caulk replaced. Sometimes a chain is too long and sometimes too short. The broken stirrup-shaped piece is likely a simple D-ring.
Eye Bolt
Collection: McIntyre Farm
Object: Hardware, Iron
Material: Iron
Period: Late 19th Century
This hand-forged iron eye was meant to be driven into a post or beam in order to hook or latch something. It may also have served on a gatepost or as part of a very simple hinge. It was made by curling the midpoint of a shaped rod around a pin to bring the edges together. A forge weld completed the job. Evidence of the weld seam is visible nearest the eye.
Chain with Wire
Collection: McIntyre Farm
Object: Chain, Metal
Material: Metal, Iron
Period: Late 19th Century - Early 20th Century
This combination of items represents an expedient solution to some unknown problem at hand. The hank of wire is deliberately wrapped around a length of four links of chain - an interesting item to speculate about.
