Basin Depot 1999-2000 - Bottles
These bits are from angular gin bottles, round brown whiskies and a couple of spirits bottles requiring corks. A few fragments of indeterminate purpose are included, but the remaining clear glass pieces are readily identifiable as an Excelsior Improved preserve jar and its round bottom, an inkbottle, and a lead foil seal for the whisky top it accompanies.

Foil seals served several purposes. They ensured that contents were kept airtight until opened and provided another surface for product identification and advertising. While many recovered pieces are crumpled, this particular specimen retains the shape of the bottle top it covered.
