Basin Depot 1999-2000 - Pipes

Kaolin clay pipe stems litter mid- to late-19th Century sites. A few have varnished mouthpieces, but most are plain. In general, pipes are extremely important archaeological finds as they are often stamped with maker's marks and origin. These samples feature several stamps. The clearest reveals the name Henderson, a Montreal firm (1847-75).
