Basin Depot 2000 - Tobacco Hearts
These small tin hearts adorned packages of plug (chewing) tobacco as proof of purchase. Usually tinned or enamelled, they were offered as premiums and greatly prized as collectibles. Small tangs on the heart back affixed it to the packet. The heart-shaped tags are associated with the W.C. Macdonald Company from about 1870 to the early 1920s. Apparently children's licorice packets also featured similar tokens.
