Basin Depot 2000 - Lanterns
This cache of lamp burners and parts thereof includes a variety of sizes and was found in a cluster at Basin Depot. The burners would be threaded onto a lamp base and a wick would be threaded through to soak up the kerosene. Adjustment to the height of the wick was managed through the use of these little wheels that operated a toothed device. Several wheels bear an 1873 patent date.
Lamp chimneys were mounted onto these burners and held in place with metal tangs. The vestigial nubs of a couple can be seen on the edges of a few burners. The accompanying fragments of chimney glass are from a few fancier specimens featuring beaded and crenellated rims.
